Your Website – Selling Membership Subscription

You create a section on your website that is hidden to users unless they have a username and password.  Then you sell membership access to this hidden content.  Usually charging monthly or annually.

If you can sell membership it’s fantastic, an automatic and reoccurring payment straight into your bank.  The money just keeps arriving.

MEMBERSHIP SITE ISSUES:
• Keep your members content up-to-date.
• Make sure the value for members is high.
• You are asking for payment so you need to sell the value.

CONSTANTLY PROMOTE:
• You need to continuously promote and bring in a constant stream of new prospects.
• No matter how good your members benefits there will be some people that will drop out.
• The more paying members you have the more profit you make.

WHY is the Secret to Website Success!

Life is so busy, everything is so expensive, and business is so competitive!  So we all have to use our TIME and MONEY efficiently.

This has made humans very good at prioritising their efforts.  We only do the things that we REALLY VALUE.  There just isn’t time for all the other things that we want.

QUESTION:  How will creating a successful website fit into your busy schedule?

Your answer to this question is critical, because the effort you give to your website will determine your results.

BIG effort = BIG results…
The only way you will put in a big effort is if you are passionate and motivated.
The only way you will be passionate and motivated is if you have some powerful reasons WHY you want to succeed.

If you don’t build up a strong enough reason WHY you really want to succeed, then you will find other things to spend your valuable time on.

If you have powerful reasons WHY, then you will do what it takes (determination, passion, confidence, sacrifice, hard work, and investment) to make your goals a reality.

EXERCISE:
State at least 5 reasons WHY you want website success.  If the reasons are important enough to you then your passion will be ignited.  It becomes a driving force.

If in the past you have set goals and not achieved them, it’s because you didn’t have strong enough reasons why you wanted to achieve the goal.

Whether you’re aiming for great wealth and riches, for power and influence or just more freedom and time to spend with family and friends, I look forward to helping you to make it happen.  Step 1: is to state at least 5 reasons why you really want your website to be successful!

20 Negative Website Words To Avoid

We often focus on what words to include in our website copy.  Those magical words that get our web visitors interested, excited and turned on…

At the opposite end of this equation are words that you shouldn’t use.  They are emotionally negative.  These words can turn your website visitor off.

1. Problem    6. Wrong   11. Liability  16. Death
2. Cheaper   7. Decision  12. Deal  17. Cost
3. Obligation   8. Contract  13. Bad  18. Pay
4. Failure   9. Complex  14. Loss  19. Catch
5. Difficult 10. Fail/Failure  15. Hard  20. Worry

Avoid these words when writing copy for your website or sales proposals.  These negative words create negative feelings and turn buyers away.

Website Graphics ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 5 Do Not Do’s…

So you’ve invested in a website.  You have a clear strategy, a great headline, excellent copy that would get your prospects excited and wanting to buy your product or service.  But what if none of this content ever beamed into the customers eye balls, because you had a big graphic that stole their attention.

If this happens you’ve wasted a lot of time, talent and money!

My client who sold footballs had a cute animation on the home page.  It was a smiling boy kicking a ball.  It was nice to watch for 3 seconds, but it dominated everything else on the page.

Don’t let your graphics (or animations):

 1. over power your website.
 2. over power the headline of your web page.
 3. detract from your branding and image.

4. detract from your sales process or objective.

5. slow the download speed of your web page.

The right graphic, in the right place can be very powerful.  So use images that help your website visitors to understand a point you are making or help to create a desire for your offering,

Internet Video – Fantastic Way To Communicate

Nothing communicates or sells as well as video does on a website.  Pictures and text just can’t compete…

Video totally captivates your senses and has the ability to emotionally connect with your audience and get people interested and excited.

Keep it simple!

I had the welcome video message on the Home Page of my website professionally produced.  But it doesn’t have to be.  You’re not trying to win awards, you’re trying to build a business and profit.

Keep the production costs low but the quality of your message high.

Online viewers are interested in what benefits them.  They are happy with a low quality recording that downloads from YouTube.com , so they’ll watch it as long as it interests and benefits them.

Editing your video is easy!

You can edit your videos using free software that is provided with your computer (Windows Movie Maker for PCs or iMovie for Macs).  You don’t have to be a technical wiz, this software is easy to use and easy to learn.  I was amazed how you can just drag and drop files and delete sections of a video.

Once you have created your video:

Go to YouTube.com and click on the button that says “UPLOAD”.  This is totally free.

Once you upload your video YouTube provides you with some HTML (text) that you or your webs designer copies and pastes into the spot on your website where you want the video to appear.

There are other free video hosting websites.  If you upload your video to TubeMogul.com they will automatically distribute your video to all of the video sharing sites.

What do you want your web users to do next?

Make sure that you include a call to action at the end of your video.  Straight out, let viewers know exactly what action they should take.

Your Website Bounce Rate

For many of you the word “STATISTICS” invokes immediate scepticism.  But here’s one that you may want to take seriously.  Your websites “Bounce Rate”.

How many visitors arrive on your website and then instantly bounce off (leave)?

This is such a simple statistic, yet it is brilliant and a powerful metric.

Example:  Home Page
- 400 users arrived on this page of your website.
- 50 of these visitors left without clicking on any links.
- 12.5% bounce rate  (this is good)

Example:  Specials Page
- 80 users arrived on this page of your website.
- 80 of these visitors left without clicking on any links.
- 100% bounce rate  (this is bad)

ALARM BELLS:
If you have a web page with a high bounce rate, what should you do?

1. Identify where the traffic is coming from that is bouncing.  Especially if you are paying for that traffic (advertising).

2. How can you improve / optimise your web page?  Here are some ideas:
 - Is the design old, ugly or unprofessional?
 - Is your content relevant to the visitor?
 - Is your content interesting and exciting to your target market?
 - Are your navigation links clear, easy and obvious?

USE THIS METRIC:
Increasing your website visitor retention leads to more sales and more profit.

Top Of Google - SEO Tip From The Experts

In a recent survey of 37 SEO (search engine optimization) experts three options were given and the experts had to decide which algorithm was the most important for achieving a high ranking in Google.

56% said the most important factor was authority and trust of a domain.
35% said external links pointing to your site
9% said Keyword based relevance of an individual web page.

So what in hell is a trusted and authoritative domain?  Simple it’s a site that Google thinks is a legitimate and quality website.  Some of the factors that create a sense of trust / authority are:
 - The age of your domain (www.your-website.com)
 - The age of a web page (when it was first indexed)
 - The number of sites that link to your website and web page
 - The quality of those links (how relevant they are and how trusted)
 - The age of those links (when did the site first link to your website and web page

Since most spam sites are new websites that don’t last long, I understand why age / trust is one of the effective ways for the search engines to rank sites.  But putting such a massive emphasis on age is not the answer.

A copy of the entire survey can be found hear:

Brief For a New Website - The First Step...

The first step in designing a great website is to get the template (the structure, size and look) of your site right.  The best way to achieve the first step is to focus on getting your Home Page perfect.

When you first send your design brief to the designer, only send instructions relating to the Home Page.  Forget about all the other web pages at this stage.  By focussing on the Home Page first, it’s easier for everyone involved and you will get a better result.

When you are completely happy with your Home Page design, you can start emailing the content for your other web pages to your designer.  Your other web pages will come together quickly and easily because you got your website template right in the beginning.

FLASH Animation On Your Website

A consulting client (fashion label – Men’s and Women’s denim jeans).  They want to update an animated window on the home page of their website.  They want to add new photos from their current design collection.

ISSUE:
Their original web designer has disappeared along with the original source files that made up the FLASH animated window.  So we need to use a new web designer and we have to pay to have a new FLASH window built from scratch.

If my client had a copy of the original FLASH .fla file (the source files) that was created to make the animated window it would have been a very quick, easy and cheap process to update.

TIP:
If you have any FLASH animation created for your website, include in the contract that your web designer will supply you with the original source files (a file that ends with .fla). This means you can quickly, easily and cheaply update your FLASH file at any time.
