Is Google Anti-Competitive?

Google’s informal corporate motto and slogan is “Don’t Do Evil”.
Yesterday the American senate had Google in court for a Senate hearing on anti-competitive behaviour. Is Google guilty of restricting other businesses ability to compete? Should Google be restrained to create a level playing field?
The CONCERN is that Google keeps creating new products and giving them away free, which sends hundreds of business broke. Even if smaller businesses find a way to differentiate, Google controls the world’s biggest search engine and makes sure that its own products are featured at the top of the Google search engine above any competitors.
EXAMPLES:
- Google Analytics is provided free and this has wiped out the entire analytics industry.
- Google provide local search and maps free, this has wiped out an entire industry.
- Google now provide satellite navigation free and their competitors in the industry are struggling to survive or already bankrupt.
Advertising on Google (AdWords) has become significantly more expensive in the last few years. Google keeps forcing advertisers to pay higher fees. The problem for advertisers is that Google has no competition so there is nowhere else to advertise online.
While we should remember that Google's excessive market power does generate a lot of money for the world economy, creates thousands of jobs and entire new industries. The important issue is to ensure Google don’t use their monopoly to unfairly put thousands of business out of business.
Yesterday’s Senate hearing was just the start. The findings did not look good for Google, so we can expect some more investigation or even legal proceedings.
