Keep It Short - Today's Web User Demands Concise Info.
This is also true of promotional messages like emails. People are too busy for long winded emails. Be persuasive, but also keep it short and SWEET.

5 Top Web Readability Tips
Adjust the style and tone of your content so it is perfect for the intended reader. So get clear up front; Exactly who is the reader? For example Teenagers have very different interests and communication style to a group of highly-educated doctors.

2. Headings That Jump Of The Screen!
Make your headings exciting attention grabbers. Not boring labels like “Home Page”, “About Us”, “Welcome”…
Make sure your headings are in large font and consider using a different colour like red to make the heading jump of the page and get instant attention.
3. Avoid “Clutter”!
Leave plenty of space (white space) around your content so it is easy for the reader. Yes, space around content makes the content much easier to view and read. Space is an important part of good design and makes your content look more organised and attractive.
Be concise with your writing and keep it punchy and exciting to the reader. Don’t use two or three words, when one word is enough.
4. Short and Easy Paragraphs!
Statistics show that users avoid big chunks of text on web pages. So my recommendation is two or three lines or sentences maximum for a paragraph.
Here a few more ways to break up your content into easy to digest chunks;
- Bullet points
- numbered points
- text boxes
- images with captions
You have to remember that web users are ready to click away, if it is not easy and valuable. So short easy paragraphs are the proven way to keep them engaged. If your message is exciting and interesting they’ll read on and get the point.
5. Keep It Interesting and Exciting!
Boring is death online. If the reader is not interested and excited they will click away. In tip number one we talked about the importance of knowing your target audience, know them, know what they want and give it to them.
You need to keep it exciting and reward your website visitors with fantastic value. Let them feel lucky that they found this “Great Page” of yours.

Perception is reality. Through
your website design and content, you try to communicate to your
prospects who you are and why they should buy from you. In fact, if
your message is clear and appealing enough to your potential customers,
chances are they’ll buy immediately.

Example of BAD BRANDING:
You arrive on Croft & Smith Solicitors website. You instantly see that the design of the website is ordinary or maybe it is just that it was designed several years ago. Right there on their home page you find two spelling mistakes. This instantly damages their credibility. The promise made by the solicitors on their website was very general “we provide great service”. Whoopee doo, that’s what everybody says.
Example of GREAT BRANDING:
You arrive on Croft & Smith Solicitors website. Right away you are impressed with the design of their site. The headline jumps of the screen and is interesting and captivating. Their client list is impressive, they offer a money back guarantee. They are located close to where you live and they offer a free initial consult. You are impressed and feel confident they will win your case, so there is no reason to look for alternatives. You contact them and make an appointment.
Make sure that your website instantly presents who you are and what you offer.
Who you are must be attractive to your customers. What you offer must be valuable and desired by your customers.
Through your website content you express your branding message. Your web visitors instantly size-you-up and then form beliefs about your personality, credibility and value.
The best way to disqualify your competition and win customer’s, is to make your website so impressive and persuasive that the customer decides to take immediate action and buy from you.
